Suchan Says: Busy Weekend Forecast

Another weekend rolls in with severe weather potential across the Plains and perhaps some of the Midwest.  Much like last weekend, the more favorable setup for severe storms will occur to our west as strong atmospheric dynamics combine with afternoon heating to produce a more widespread potential for severe weather.  Supercell storms are quite likely across western Kansas into central Kansas during the day including some of Oklahoma an Nebraska.

As the big upper low and strong jet stream move east toward our area, the sun will be lowering in the sky then setting which produces gradual atmospheric cooling.  It’s an interesting balance in our severe weather forecast as wind shear will be strengthening while instability is slowly decreasing.  On top of this, we may very well see discrete storms out west moving our way begin to organize into lines or clusters which brings more damaging wind and large hail concerns.  That all said, I do not want to dismiss the possibility of an isolated tornado in the evening especially in our western zones.

Sunday features a strong dry slot of air punching in to shut off t-storm chances.  We’ll see lots of sun through the day with windy and warm conditions.  Highs in the lower to mid 80s!!  A beautiful finish to the weekend and that afternoon Royals game against New York if going!
