Suchan Says: 7:15pm Update on Next Round of Rain

Storms in northwest Missouri to northeast Kansas and moving southeast

Our next round of showers and storms is making steady progress into the viewing area.  After early day rain, localized flooding remains the primary concern.  The severe risk has been greatly reduced by the rain-cooled environment from earlier today although some late day sunshine gave temperatures a boost into the 70s to lower 80s.  However, a lowering sun angle will contribute to gradual cooling from here.  That said, an isolated severe risk for brief strong wind gusts still seems plausible along with a few hail reports.  Overall though, torrential rainfall with frequent lightning are the main concerns.

I see a general 1 to 2 inches of rain from this cluster but locally more is certainly possible if we see training storms over the same ground.  The Flash Flood Watch remains active across the metro and points north.  We still have Flash Flood Warnings in effect through midnight and I would expect these warnings to be extended potentially given more rain set to move in.
