Suchan Says: Weekend Forecast

Showers and thunderstorms moving toward the area. Arrive very late tonight

Showers and thunderstorms moving toward the area. Arrive very late tonight

The Flash Flood Watch issued for the area remains in effect overnight into Saturday afternoon.  It won’t take much of a downpour to create rapid flash flooding given all the recent rain our area has seen.

Tonight’s complex of showers and thunderstorms is quickly advancing across southern Nebraska – northern Kansas heading toward the northern half of our area before sunrise.  Roughly along I-70 and to the north has the best chance to see a little morning rain while areas south of I-70 would be very isolated.

I do not expect severe storms but a few downpours with lightning is certainly possible.  It appears by late morning to early afternoon any rain in the area will rapidly dissipate into a partly sunny day.  Temperatures will quickly warm into the lower to mid 80s.  Forecast high is 84.

There is a slight chance during the afternoon far southern sections could see a stray thunderstorm.  Otherwise it appears northern sections of the area during the evening into Saturday night could see a few passing thunderstorms.  These storms could be strong with large hail and wind gusts “if” we see them pass across northern Missouri.

Sunday is a partly sunny day and rather hot.  Highs will push toward 88.  THIS would be our hottest day of the year which is not saying much.  Typically by now we would have already seen a few days in the upper 80s to even 90 degrees but this has become a cool, wet spring.  Currently our warmest day of the year was April 7th at 85 degrees!

Late afternoon, evening and Sunday night will bring a 50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms as a cold front sags into the area.  A few of these storms could be strong with wind gusts, hail, frequent lightning and torrential downpours.

Here are a series of images to help you plan your weekend around rain chances and going to sporting events in the area.
