Hawila’s Heads Up: Sunday Outlook

The first half of the weekend brought us a little rain in the morning (0.12″ at KCI) and a hot and humid afternoon! Many locations reached the middle 80s with heat index values in the lower 90s. Here’s a look at the heat index values reported during the 5 o’clock hour.

We’re tracking thunderstorm development to our north and west. Satellite and radar shows these storms, and I circled the area with the best chance at seeing rain/storms this evening and overnight. Locally, the best chance would be north of the metro. A stronger storm can’t be ruled out, but severe weather tonight will be kept to a minimum.

Local risk for severe storms is greater on Sunday.

After a very warm start to the day in the lower 70s, Sunday will bring us another hot and humid afternoon with highs in the middle to upper 80s. The comfort index spells out a bad hair day and sweat all day.

Most of Sunday will be dry, but an approaching front will trigger late afternoon and evening development of thunderstorms from north to south. Below is a series of Forecast Track graphics depicting when storms could being popping up and how they will advance through our area.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of our viewing area under a slight risk for severe storms tomorrow. Latest model guidance continues to suggest that risk is still alive. The main concern with the strongest storms tomorrow would be damaging winds and perhaps some large hail. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, but the tornado risk is very low at this time. Stay tuned to KCTV 5 and the Storm Track 5 team for the latest on this risk.
