Suchan Says: Weekend Blast Furnace Ahead… Storms Too ?

Here we go ladies and gentlemen!  Pure hot Plains to Midwest style Saturday as temperatures surge from the 60s at sunrise into the mid to upper 90s (western half of the area) to the lower to mid 90s (eastern half of the area).  Factor in the humidity and it will easily feel like it’s over 100 degrees for much of the afternoon to early evening.  In fact, here’s the Saturday Heat Advisory in effect.

Unfortunately we cannot enter a weekend forecast with a 0% chance of rain for the area.  That’s been the story seemingly this entire spring.  While much of the area will not see rain Saturday, I simply cannot make any guarantees on a rain-free day with particular emphasis on the northern part of our viewing area.

Storms I'm watching moving southeast... eventually into Iowa

Storms that are firing in the Dakotas tonight will slide southeast into Iowa by Saturday morning.  We’ll want to watch northern Missouri later in the day as a weak frontal boundary could sag into our area with some help from this early day storminess.  This could become a focal point for new storm development in the northern third of our viewing area by early evening.

Any storms up north late day could be severe with large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Weather models do vary on late Saturday storm chances. GFS is less aggressive with the idea while NAM hits storms harder in our northern counties. Will lean toward the NAM at this point in the forecast
