Hawila’s Heads-Up: Steamy Saturday

It’s going to be a steamy start to your Father’s Day weekend. Take a look at downtown KC this morning. It just looks hazy, hot and humid!

There’s a Heat Advisory in place for the area from noon to 9 PM today. High temperatures this afternoon will climb into the middle 90s. In addition to the high heat, dew point values will be approaching miserable levels which means heat index values will be as high as 106°. Please make sure to take extra care in staying cool and hydrated today.

If you look at the planner above, I want you to note the winds. Today will be a very breezy day with southerly winds howling in 15 to 25 MPH with gusts as high as 30. We also have the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm later this evening. The best chance for a thunderstorm is north of Interstate-70 and northeast of Kansas City. With that being said, there is the chance that any storms that do develop could become strong to severe with large hail and damaging winds. The threat will remain isolated in nature. Forecast Track shows that chance for an isolated shower or storm in the area later this evening.

If you’re headed out to the Royals game, make sure to drink plenty of water! It will be a downright steamy steamy game!
