Suchan Says: Weekend Inching Closer… So is the Heat

We’re used to wild weather swings in the Midwest where a stretch of 2 to 3 days can feature a solid 30 to 50 degree swing in temperatures.  However, seeing a big swing in temperatures in July is quite remarkable and that’s what we’re about to endure after Wednesday’s mid 60s and the mid 90s coming this weekend!!

Before we get to the weekend heat, there is Friday and a chance for scattered thunderstorms as the surge of hot air brings a warm front across the area late in the day.  While we’ll see some breaks of sun Friday and a boost into the 80s, we should all plan on dodging a scattering of storms to round out the day.

As of now, I feel enough instability will be present with “just enough” directional wind shear (turning of winds with height) to promote an isolated stronger storm with some hail and a few wind gusts.  I’m not expecting widespread severe storms as of now but lets stay plugged into late day conditions.

Here’s a look at our hour by hour forecast showing the scattered afternoon / evening storms in the area.

Friday Morning: Patchy clouds and mainly dry

Friday Early Afternoon: Isolated shower or T-Storm possible

Friday Early Afternoon: Isolated shower or T-Storm possible

Friday Late Afternoon: Few Showers or T-Storms

Friday Late Afternoon: Few Showers or T-Storms

Friday Evening: Scattered T-Storms

Friday Evening: Scattered T-Storms

Friday will bring widespread mid 80s to the area (83 – 87).  With ample humidity in place, it may feel like it’s near 90 especially in breaks of sun.

The weekend will start with a 30% chance of morning showers or thunderstorms across the northern half of the area before drier and much hotter air pushes in for the afternoon and evening.  Skies will turn mostly to partly sunny during the afternoon and temperatures should reach into the lower 90s.  On Sunday, mostly sunny afternoon skies with some very hot air building across the area will allow highs to reach the mid 90s and it will feel like it’s over 100 with the humidity.
