Hawila’s Heads-Up: Weekend Outlook

It was a bit of a rocky start for some of us Saturday morning with showers and storms scattered about the area. Pockets of heavy rain, lots of lightning and thunder greeted us first thing this weekend mainly north of I-70. Here’s a look at the radar picture around 8:30.

Saturday will not be a washout. Rain chances start to wind down as we approach the lunch hour and beyond. We expect sunshine to breakthrough which will heat us up into the middle 90s this afternoon. That high heat and humidity is prompting a heat advisory across the area, because it will feel as hot as 105°.

The Sporting KC game looks to be a hot one, but a good chance of a dry one. Only isolated shower or storm chances will be around during game time against Montreal.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday:

We do have a risk for strong to severe storms both days. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. We’ll be closely monitoring that risk all weekend. The entire metro is at risk both days.
