Hawila’s Heads-Up: Saturday Storms

It was a rainy start to the weekend for areas north and east of the metro. Although the metro skipped past the rain this morning, there’s a good chance we won’t get so lucky later this afternoon. Before we get into the rain chances, just a reminder that there is a Heat Advisory for the area until 9PM. Highs in the middle 90s and oppressive humidity will make it feel as hot as 110° at peak heating this afternoon.

Latest high resolution model guidance continues to suggest another round of a few storms later this afternoon. Here’s a look at a couple of possible solutions around 5:00 PM. Note the similarities. A few of these storms could pack some strong winds and large hail. For this reason, the Storm Prediction Center has our area under a slight risk for severe storms.

If this verifies, it would be awful timing for the Royals and Astros game. Temperatures are expected to be near 90° near first-pitch (assuming the air is NOT rain cooled).

Through the evening, rain chances will linger, but wind down after sunset as rain and storms push SE through the area.
