Suchan Says: Strong Cold Front on the Way

Monday’s high temperature went in the books at 89° and this will likely be the hottest temperature of the week.  A strong cold front is ready to bulldoze across the area and bring an early taste of Fall weather to the area by the middle of the week.

The transition into this unseasonably cool air mass will be a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday ahead and along the cold front.  Chances will increase toward daybreak and peak in the middle of the day Tuesday.  The key to the forecast Tuesday is trying to keep a lid on temperatures to lower the severe weather risk.  There is plenty of wind shear available later in the day for severe storms.  It will be in our best interest to see lots of clouds and early day rain chances to suppress the temperature climb which would in turn lower instability levels for strong storms.

At this point, I still can’t rule out a couple strong to severe storms but I do expect enough cloudiness and rain through the day to minimize the coverage of severe storms.  The primary concern would be wind gusts followed by hail.
