Suchan Says: Need to Keep an Eye on Saturday Storms

Another strong cold front is ready to move through the area this weekend.  Much like the last strong cold front to move through, a push of cooler air and lower humidity will also settle back into the area.  Unfortunately, this front could also bring some heavy storms into the viewing area before we get into another stretch of nice weather.

Saturday morning starts with patchy clouds and a few showers or storms.  As of now, we’ll run with a 20% chance of early day rain.  Any thunderstorms early in the day would not pose much risk of severe weather.

By early afternoon skies become partly sunny, breezes pick up from the south and temperatures will get a bump into the upper 80s for most.  There will not be much chance of rain through the afternoon.

The strong cold front drops into northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas by the evening with thunderstorms developing out ahead of it and sinking south.  It appears the atmosphere will be strongly unstable and there will be some decent shear in place to support severe weather.  Damaging wind gusts and large hail are likely with these storms but I cannot rule out an isolated tornado either given the amount of directional shear or turning of the winds as you go up in altitude from the surface.

Sunday turns out sunny, breezy and much cooler behind the cold front.  High temperatures Sunday will stay in the mid to upper 70s!  Much of next week is dry and sunny with our next chance for a few storms arriving by next Friday.
