Suchan Says: Late Summer Sizzle Continues

There’s no stopping the late string of 90-degree days as we move closer to Labor Day weekend.  Friday will certainly reach 90 or hotter and that will make it 5-straight days.  This is normally not a headline for us in Kansas City but in what has been a reasonably cool summer for us, this would be our longest stretch of consecutive 90-degree days.

The ridge of high pressure anchored over the eastern half of the country will continue to pump heat and humidity into the area Saturday and Sunday.  Both days should easily reach or exceed 90 degrees with a gusty breeze from the south each afternoon.

I expect the string of hot 90-degree days to end Labor Day Monday with a high in the upper 80s as a weak front drops into the area.  The combination of scattered clouds and some showers or thunderstorms should be just enough to keep it below 90.  If somehow we’re able to hit 90, Tuesday would certainly put the brakes on the hot stretch with highs struggling back into the mid 80s with a chance of showers or thunderstorms again.

College football is fully underway this weekend and all 3 big schools in our area are at home.  Kickoff in Lawrence is before noon but keep in mind the temperature will climb into the 90s during the afternoon.  If out tailgating in Columbia or Manhattan, it will be sunny and hot!
