Suchan Says: Labor Day Weekend Forecast

It’s been a hot week across the area and this pattern extends right into Labor Day weekend.  When all is said and done, we should easily see 7 straight 90-degree days before we possibly hold the temperature just below 90 on Monday.

A weak front will drop into the area on Labor Day with the main area of low pressure actually up in southern Canada.  This weak front will have enough moisture pooled along it combining with daytime heating to trigger a scattering of showers or storms to finish off the holiday weekend.  There will likely be a round of morning showers and storms Labor Day followed by a bit of a lull in the middle of the day before another round of pop up showers and storms develop.

At this point, I could see one or two strong to severe storms with hail and gusty winds if we indeed heat up into the upper 80s to near 90 creating an unstable atmosphere along with the risk for locally heavy rain.

This same front then allows for an area of low pressure to develop along it Tuesday with more showers and storms to push across.  The pattern will support a couple more rounds of showers or storms Wednesday and Thursday before much drier and cooler air surges south into the area.

Here are some panels off tonight’s NAM weather model run showcasing Sunday into Labor Day Monday.
