Hawila’s Heads Up: Storms Tonight & Friday

We’ve seen some strong to severe thunderstorms in areas north of the metro this evening. So far, the only warnings have been in Atchison and Doniphan Counties in Kansas. Large hail and damaging winds will remain the primary concerns with the strongest storms this evening. Most of the storms will collapse to well under severe limits by the time they reach the metro later tonight.

More widespread rain is expected Friday and there is the risk for a few strong to severe thunderstorms as well. A few afternoon storms will precede more widespread showers and storms as a strong cold front sweeps through area late in the day Friday. The severe storm risks will primarily be large hail and damaging winds, but an isolated tornado is not out of the question.

We’ll be analyzing new data coming in to the weather center tonight on Friday’s severe storm risk. Keep checking back here and on KCTV5 for the latest!
