Severe storms from Nebraska south into Texas

The early story with this system has been the severe weather in western Kansas, western Nebraska, Oklahoma into Texas.  Multiple wicked supercell storms have produced tornadoes.  This is a picture of a large tornado near Plains, KS well southwest of Dodge City earlier.

Fortunately for our area, the risk for severe weather decreases rapidly as you move into eastern Kansas and Missouri tonight.  That is not to say we couldn’t pick up some gusty storms with 35 to 45mph wind gusts but a major night of severe weather is not expected.  Instead, locally heavy rain, thunder and lightning are more likely.

Overnight rain and thunder to push in. “Thin red line” could be squally fast moving storms producing 35 – 45mph wind gusts and very heavy rain.

Here is a look at rainfall amounts over the next 24 hours.  Most should see close to 1″ of rain but some areas could easily go above with downpours.

The chance of rain will decrease through the day Tuesday with even pokes of sun possible in our western sections by late afternoon.  Highs in the mid 60s before cooler weather rolls in to finish the week.
