Suchan Says: Spring Fever in December

The next few days are going to be the warmest stretch of this unseasonably mild start to December!  While record highs are likely safe, we definitely will see some “near record” warmth before the weekend arrives.

Over this stretch, jackets may start the day but short sleeves will be possible each afternoon.  Cut the furnace off and save a little on the utility bill too!  I see loads of sunshine the next couple of days followed a Friday that turns partly cloudy as scattered clouds gradually spread in.

Beautiful Wednesday!

The weekend is where big changes unfold.  All the storminess impacting the Pacific Northwest will eventually make a push toward our region.  It appears Saturday starts with a few sprinkles or a lone shower then gradually fills in with areas of rain and possibly a little thunder.  Temperatures Saturday should range from the 40s up north to near 60 in the southeast.  So everything that falls Saturday is just rain.

Forecast map Saturday

We’ll need to keep an eye on where the system tracks along with it’s following upper low Saturday night into Sunday.  There is some potential enough cold air wraps in to transition showers over to a wintry mix in northeastern Kansas to northwestern Missouri before ending.  At this point, I do not expect much accumulation if this indeed occurs.  That said, we would want to keep tabs on Sunday night temperatures and potential for any refreezing on bridges/overpasses, etc.

Sunday showers… some mix “possible” to the northwest

Another solid 24 hours of computer modeling will go a long way to boost confidence on the weekend forecast as far as track of the system and what falls.  One thing is for sure though, it will turn much cooler Sunday with highs stuck in the 40s which is actually just a return to something more typical for this time of the year!
