Suchan Says: Big Weekend System Ahead

Here comes Friday and it looks on track to cap off what has been a stellar week of warm weather in December!!

In the morning, temperatures will start in the 30s to lower 40s with just a scattering of clouds.  During the day, patchy clouds will mix with times of sunshine and temperatures will once again soar into the 60s for most areas.

Tracking system out west heading our way for the weekend

The big weekend system ahead is easily identified along the west coast.  As this system approaches, clouds fill in across the area Friday night with mist or sprinkles possible by daybreak Saturday.  Temperatures Saturday will start in the upper 40s.

Much of the day Saturday is just cloudy with sprinkles or a little mist.  By later in the afternoon and especially the evening pockets of rain will develop in the area with even some thunder possible.  I do not expect any severe weather although a random gusty storm with downpours and pea size hail would be possible.  Highs once again on Saturday will be exceptionally mild reaching near 64 (although much cooler in northwest Missouri).

Potential for severe storms highest well south of our area

Saturday night, periods of rain with temperatures holding in the 50s all night.

Sunday starts in the 50s then cools through the 40s during the afternoon.  All day long I expect pockets of rain or just drizzle.  It will turn breezy as well.  Any chance for snow to mix in is limited given such a marginally cold atmosphere trailing behind the system.  It’s possible a few snowflakes could mix with the rain before it ends Sunday night.  No accumulation expected and roads will be just wet.

Here are a series of forecast images highlighting the weekend forecast.

Saturday Morning: Clouds with sprinkles or a little mist

Saturday Afternoon: Sprinkles, mist or a stray shower possible

Saturday Evening: Rain with some thunder possible

Sunday Morning: Areas of rain and drizzle

Sunday Noon: Areas of rain or drizzle

Sunday Late Afternoon: Showers or drizzle

Forecast Rainfall: Solid 1″ to 2″ rain with locally more possible depending on where a few T-Storms move through with downpours
