Suchan Says: Weekend Soaker!

Upper low digging into the Southwest and ready to move toward our area over the weekend

Well here we go, one unsettled weekend of weather ahead!  Large upper low is easily identified in the southwestern part of the country.  It’s ready to pivot northeast and head right for us over the next 48 hours.

Saturday starts with low cloudiness, areas of fog and some drizzle developing through the morning.  Temperatures will likely start in the mid to upper 40s in the metro.

Saturday Morning: Cloudy with areas of dense fog and some drizzle developing

Saturday Early Afternoon: Cloudy with drizzle or a few light showers

Into early afternoon, cloudy skies with areas of drizzle likely.  Temperatures will be creeping up through the 50s by midday.  By late afternoon and especially the evening, patchy rain and eventually a few thunderstorms will become increasingly likely.  High temperatures by the evening will reach the lower to mid 60s in the KC metro with mid to upper 60s in our southern sections.  Areas north of the metro will likely hold in the 50s to perhaps near 60.

Saturday Evening: Patchy rain and some thunder likely

There is a chance for a gusty storm or two with small hail and brief wind gusts but I do not expect a big severe weather risk.  While wind shear will be impressive, poor instability levels will make it difficult to sustain a widespread risk for severe storms.

Best chance for heavier and steadier rain is later in the day… thus the 70% PM rain chance. Only drizzle or mist first part of the day

Severe Weather Outlook from Storm Prediction Center

Saturday night into Sunday morning, widespread rain likely with some thunder possible.  Temperatures are steady in the lower to mid 60s much of Saturday night then drop to near 60 Sunday morning.

Sunday Morning: Rain… a few rumbles of thunder possible too

Sunday looks like periods of rain or times of drizzle all day long.  It will be much too warm to worry about winter weather.  Although by Sunday night a few snowflakes could mix in with the last batch of scattered showers especially in our northwestern zones.

Sunday Afternoon: Patchy rain or drizzle

Sunday Night: Showers with a few snowflakes possible especially to the northwest of the KC metro
