Hallie’s Hints: Talk About a Complicated Forecast!

Hope you’ve been enjoying this warmer than average quiet December we’ve seen lately. That’s all about to change. A whole mess of busy weather is headed our way. Today, grab the umbrella as you head out the door. Rain showers will become likely by later on this afternoon into this evening. Temperatures today will climb into the upper 40s.

Late this evening, a cold front will swing through our area. Gusty northerly winds will blow colder air in. We could see a light wintry mix overnight and into early Sunday morning. Temperatures overnight will fall into the lower to mid 30s.

*If* we see a wintry mix Sunday morning, I am expecting temperatures to warm into the mid to upper 30s by afternoon transitioning all precipitation back to liquid form. The Chiefs forecast isn’t looking great. It’s going to be a cold rain with gusty northerly winds. Burrrr…..

Again we’ll be watching overnight Sunday and into Monday for rain to transition back over to a wintry mix. It could be a slick commute Monday morning.

There is a good chance of a rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow mixture Monday with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Heavy rain will be likely with this system, especially south and east of the metro. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in place starting this afternoon (Saturday) and ending Monday afternoon. Here is a look at possible rainfall totals.

This whole system will start to push east Tuesday leaving us cold temperatures with highs in the lower 30s.

There will likely be some snow and (possible) light ice accumulation with this system. The forecast models have not been in agreement with the exact track of this system and how much cold air will funnel in. As soon as we get a better grasp on the model data, we’ll be sure to pass along the latest forecast. One thing for sure, if you’ll be traveling this weekend into early next week, stay alert to the forecast.
