Suchan Says: Bitter Cold and Snow Chances

It’s going to be a weekend of arctic cold and just a touch of a little snow Saturday in spots.  Overall, it still very much appears our area will miss a decent snow as the track of the system is simply too far to the southeast.

Overnight into Saturday morning, we will see scattered snow flurries and a few patches of freezing mist.  The best chance of snow Saturday late morning to early afternoon will be confined to our eastern and southeastern zones closer to the track of the system.  In fact, a dusting of snow in spots still seems very possible in our border counties with more snow just outside of our area.

Saturday Morning: Flurries or a few snow showers in our area. Better chance of snow just outside our viewing area

Saturday Afternoon: Snow over St. Louis and heading away from our area

The next item of interest, the bitter arctic cold!  Saturday will have temperatures falling through the 20s into the teens.  The problem will be gusty winds and dropping moisture levels in the air making it feel much colder.  Here are forecast wind chill temperatures Saturday into Sunday!

Saturday winds gusting 25 to near 30 mph at times

Late next week, latest run of the GFS is generating a possible winter weather maker for our area.  The model has been sniffing around at this idea over recent runs and just now is hitting our area in this evening’s model cycle.  We’ll see if other models come around to this idea.  It’s 7 days out, so plenty of time to watch and see if anything comes from it.
