Suchan Says: Overnight Storms

An area of low pressure will move into the area overnight dragging a cold front into the area late.  Ahead of this system, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely but mainly in the northern half of the viewing area.  Areas further south from Kansas City have a slight chance of overnight rain if at all.

Showers and storms developing. Favoring northern 1/2 of the area tonight. Drier to the south

Some of the storms tonight will be capable of frequent lightning, downpours and hail.  Most storms should remain below severe threshold with hail smaller than 1″ in diameter.

First thing in the morning, there could be a few leftover showers up north otherwise partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures start the day.  A quick warm up will be underway with some sunshine as highs push the 70 degree mark (colder air arrives late).

Best chance of showers and storms north of Kansas City in the middle of the night to daybreak

Of note, we could see a secondary round of pop up showers or storms in the area during the afternoon.  A few could be strong in north central Missouri east into northeastern Missouri and we’ll be monitoring trends for you.

Morning commute

Second round of pop up showers or t-storms mid to late afternoon

Marginal risk for severe storms tonight. Hail main concern with any stronger storm

Don’t forget, Tornado Safety Drill at 1:30pm for all counties in our viewing area EXCEPT Douglas, Franklin and Anderson Counties.  Those 3 counties will have their drill at 6:30pm.

Always a good idea to use this drill to put your Midwest severe weather safety plan into motion in the event the real thing occurs this season.
