Suchan Says: Weekend Flash Flood Watch

Here comes Friday and thoughts of a big three day holiday weekend ahead!  And it all starts pretty nice Friday as a brief push of drier conditions moves in for a good chunk of the day.  By late day however, you’ll notice clouds on the increase and a few sprinkles or a shower is possible before the day is done.  And then comes the heavy stuff…

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect tonight until the end of the day Sunday.  The overall setup continues to favor a widespread rain event with potential to focus a narrow corridor of heavier rain with thunder across the area where “training” of heavy rain occurs.  This type of scenario results in extreme rainfall amounts and naturally flash flooding of creeks, streams, some roads and basement flooding.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms will spread into the area through Saturday’s sunrise.  During the day Saturday, cloudy skies with patchy rain, drizzle and a few storms.  By Saturday evening, rain with thunderstorms develops producing potential flooding into Saturday night.

Sunday has a good chance of rain although by later in the day the variety of rain may be lighter and more patchy.  Drier conditions build in Sunday night and last through 4th of July Monday.

Total rainfall is an easy 1″ to 5″ event.  Isolated amounts in excess of 5″ appears to be a possibility as well.

Friday Afternoon: Mix clouds and sun. 30% showers by later in the evening

Saturday Morning: Rain and some thunder

Saturday Afternoon: Rain, drizzle and a few storms

Saturday Evening: Rain and pockets of heavy rain likely

Sunday Morning: Patchy rain, drizzle and lingering thunder

Forecast rainfall amounts through Sunday afternoon (blue to purple shaded areas 4″ – 6″)
