Hawila’s Heads-Up: Flooding Potential

We have our first Flash Flood Warning of the evening for Platte and Leavenworth Counties until 6 AM. Heavy rain will continue to fall overnight, and it’s heightening our concerns for flooding. An NWS employee noted rainfall rates exceeding 3 inches an hour at KCI just after midnight. They measured 0.28″ of rain in just 5 minutes! That’s remarkable.

The additional heavy rains are falling on top of very saturated grounds. Here’s a look at estimated rain totals so far.

Many areas will easily double, or more than double, the amount of rain they have already picked up through Sunday afternoon.
