Relief from the heat is in sight but we’ve got to get through a couple more hot days first. The Excessive Heat Warning for the Metro and areas south will expire at 8pm Sunday and 8pm Saturday for areas north. A disturbance to our north and west will bring a few showers/storms to extreme northwest MO and northeast KS mainly during the morning hours Saturday, but many of us won’t catch a break from the heat as Saturday’s highs reach the mid/upper 90s with partly sunny skies.
Late Saturday night, there’s a slight chance for a couple of showers and that chance will linger through Sunday as a cold front sweeps into the region from the north. Sunday won’t be as hot but with highs in the mid 90s, it will still be enough to keep air conditioners going.
Better chances for rain move in late Sunday, and then our long awaited cool down arrives. Cooler air that has been trapped up north will finally start to settle into the region Monday. The front that ushers in our relief looks like it will stall over Missouri and bring multiple chances for showers/storms through the upcoming week. Even though potential for severe weather is still questionable, any rain we get will only help keep us cooler than what we’ve been experiencing.
