TEACHMAN’S TAKE: A Toasty Tuesday

Clouds are on the move this morning due to this system passing by.  It’s been producing some pretty strong storms up in Nebraska.

There’s a small window from 10 AM to 1 PM today where a few of these showers could survive north of 36 Highway.

It will become partly cloudy this afternoon.  The winds will pick up throughout the day from the south at 10 to 15 MPH and gust to 20.  This will easily push our temperatures to the upper 70s and lower 80s.

There will be two times of day to watch for storms on Wednesday.  The first will be after midnight and through the morning commute for areas north of 36 Highway and the closer you get to the MO/IA state line.  Doubtful that the metro will pick up any of this rain as the warm front twitches slightly north.

The rest of the day will be warm with a sun/cloud mix.  Highs will be in the lower 80s.  Toward evening, in particular between 6 and 9 PM, areas of NE KS and NW MO (think Tarkio/Maryville/Mound City) will have a brief window for severe weather.

All modes of severe weather are likely during this time, including an isolated tornado threat.

As the evening continues, these thunderstorms will build back into central Kansas.  They will then move southeast toward the metro closer to 10 PM.  Initially, they will have the potential to produce large hail & damaging winds.  But, with the sun down, the energy will be quickly lost and they will turn into a heavy rain/lightning threat through part of the overnight.  These storms should be long gone for the AM commute on Thursday.

Temps will be much cooler on Thursday in the middle 60s.  Unsettled skies return late Friday through dawn on Sunday.  It still looks like Saturday will be a washout due to rain.  Highs will be affected in the middle 50s to lower 60s.  Quiet early next week as temps recover to near 70.

Take care,
