Suchan Says: Arrowhead Record and Storms Ahead
September 29, 2014

First off, congratulations to the Chiefs fan base taking back the world record for the loudest stadium!!  Seattle will always have an edge given the construction of their stadium with the parabolic shape to the upper deck trapping sound inside the stadium combining with the cooler marine layer air they often play with.  Arrowhead often hosts daytime games and the stadium is not built to retain the incredible noise the fans create.  But the combination of science and a nationally televised game combined to shatter the previous record from last year!!  A game well after sunset with little to no wind of consequence and an energized fan base on national TV blowing out the Patriots was a recipe for a huge record… 142.2 decibels !!!

Next up, the huge Royals game Tuesday evening at Kauffman Stadium against Oakland.  And there is a slight chance of rain impacting the game but mainly deep into the game.  If it goes into extra innings, chances for a rain delay increase.

A look tonight out to the west shows the active pattern set to move back into the area.

The bulk of the activity tonight into much of Tuesday stays out of our area with a small chance for a shower or storm in northwestern parts of the viewing area away from the metro.  Rain chances will increase across the remainder of the area by late evening Tuesday into Tuesday night and then linger into Thursday where multiple rounds of thunderstorms will be possible.

The combination of a strengthening wind field and potential instability Wednesday and Thursday will be supportive of some storms organizing and going severe with large hail, damaging wind gusts a distinct possibility.  The tornado potential is low and conditional on a number of factors coming together but it is not 0% unfortunately.  We’ll monitor trends carefully.

Here are a series of images Tuesday into Wednesday morning tracking rain chances into the area.
